Clinical hypnotherapy or hypnosis may be provided by psychologists, clinical social workers, or other highly trained professionals.  Hypnotherapy is used to treat a wide range of psychological issues, and for pain management.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness.  Clinical hypnotherapy uses of that altered state or trance for a therapeutic intervention.  The trance creates a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation that allows you to feel safe to work through difficult thoughts, feelings, or memories.  The trance allows your subconscious to move to the foreground, and work on issues that impact your mood and behaviors.  By being able to work directly with your subconscious, you and your therapist can actively address the causes of problems.

The brainwaves found in a trance state are similar to the brainwaves found when you meditate, or day dream or when you are fully absorbed in an enjoyable task.

What is involved in a Clinical Hypnotherapy session?

Your first session will involve a discussion to determine what are the issues or concerns you want to address.  Together, you and you therapist will identify your goals and develop a treatment plan.  Sessions are between 50 to 75 minutes depending on the issues you want to resolve.   You will also be taught self-hypnosis, which you can use between therapy sessions.
