Applicant Requirements and Attributes

All applicants must be in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists as a Registered Psychologist.  Firefly Counselling is seeking clinicians with two or more years of direct clinical practice experience.  While these positions are primary for adult therapists, there may be requests to work with older teens.  As Firefly Counselling has a thriving child practice component, all clinicians at Firefly must provide a clean Criminal Records Check - Vulnerable Sector, and Child Welfare Check that is current to three months prior to application, and every two years they are on contract.  All therapists must carry individual professional liability insurance for at least $2 million.

Contract 1 is for a generalist clinician, with knowledge that Firefly clients tend to primarily be couples, or individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, stress and addictions.  The ability to carry a generalist caseload for contract 1 is key.

Contract 2 is for a primarily couples therapist.  There will be some generalist individual work as well.  Applicants must feel confident in their ability to provide excellent service for clients in the clinic's primary focus areas.

All clinicians are expected to meet College of Alberta Psychologist standards for the obtaining of informed consent, note-taking, file maintenance and timely report writing as requested by third party payors.  All clinicians at Firefly Counselling actively seek to strengthen and diversify their clinical skills through accredited training and supervision.  If a clinician seeks to enter into a new area of clinical practice, referrals will only be provided in that area upon proof of appropriate training, and ongoing engagement in clinical supervision for that particular treatment approach or population.

While each clinician at Firefly Counselling is running their own contract based private practice, it is not uncommon to work co-operatively with other Firefly therapists based on client needs (e.g. specialist treatment with hypnotherapy or EMDR that the primary clinician cannot provide, or one clinician is providing individual therapy while another provides couples therapy for that client).  This means that all Firefly clinicians must be able to work in both an individual and team based practice approach.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

As we offer a state of the art online booking / invoicing / receipt system for our clients and clinicians to use, all our clinicians must be comfortable with basic computer operation skills.  In order to meet third party payor reporting requirements, clinicians must also be competent at utilizing word-processing and spreadsheet programs (e.g. Word, Excel...).

As part of modelling healthy problem solving to our clients, all Firefly Clinicians are expected to take responsibility for their actions and decisions.

Firefly Counselling offers clients hours that work with the client's schedules.  This means that all Firefly Clinicians work a range of hours, including evenings and weekends.
