Opening for a Registered Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist

Primary Clinical Training

Firefly Counselling is currently seeking a registered psychologist or provisional psychologist with interest and training in Couples Counselling.  Preference will be given to clinicians with training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  A solid background in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is considered an asset.

Preference will also be given to a registered psychologist or provisional psychologist holding a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Due to the requirements of third party payors, we will not review resumes of applications who are not provisionally or fully registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

Additional Clinical Training

Opportunities to work with individual clients dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, workplace stress, addictions, self-esteem, communication challenges, and whole family dynamics will be possible.   Training in Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Gestalt Therapy, Hypnosis, Hakomi Method, or other research proven therapy techniques will strengthen a clinician's application.

We have a well-stocked psychometric assessment library.  There is potential for a couples clinician with the appropriate training (or in training) who wishes to diversify their practice, to add additional occasional daytime hours to conduct a variety of psychometric assessments (e.g. academic / IQ / memory, etc...).

Educational/Training Supports Offered by Firefly Counselling

Firefly Counselling will support the successful applicant to complete training in EFT if they have not yet achieved certification.

Hours of Work

Most couples are only available during evening and weekend hours.   As a result, this position is open to a registered psychologist or provisional psychologist who have evening and weekend availability.  This is an excellent opportunity for clinicians who may be working at another location (or who are otherwise committed) during daytime hours, and wish to add additional direct client work to their schedule.

While the initial hours offered are part-time, there is potential for a clinician to achieve full-time hours as their caseload builds over time.

Firefly Counselling Offers

Firefly Counselling provides client referrals, a fully furnished office, a state of the art booking and invoicing system (that you can access on your computer, phone or tablet), and all the supplies.  If there is some therapy equipment that you feel is important to your clinical practice (e.g. tappers), we are open to considering purchasing those for your use.

The clinicians at Firefly Counselling each have 15+ years of clinical practice work in their various specialities.  They provide excellent resources for consultation, peer support, and continued learning.  The ability to maintain a positive, supportive work environment is crucial for all our clinicians.

We have a diverse client base.  Along with direct calls from the public, we also receive referrals from insurance companies, lawyers, physicians, Children Services, RCMP / VAC / CF / NIHB, other agencies, and best compliment we can receive - referrals from prior clients.

Our compensation rate is consistent with industry standard for contract clinicians.  Compensation is paid at least monthly, and may be more often for clinicians earning over a certain threshold.

Provisional psychologists may seek clinical supervision via and external supervisor, or onsite, from Karin Lord, M.Sc., R. Psych..  Karin is a recognized and experienced provisional practice supervisor.  Services provided by provisional psychologists are charged to clients at a lower rate than our fully registered clinicians.  The lower rate is in recognition of a provisional's lesser training and experience.  The lower client fee may increase referral opportunities for a provisional psychologist.
